Update a Notification Method

You can edit a notification method. A notification method lets you inform people when an activity that affects a ticket takes place. You can assign different notification methods for different notification levels (low, medium, high, or emergency).

To update a notification method

  1. On the Administration tab, browse to Notifications, Notification Methods.

    The Notification Method List appears.

  2. Select a notification method.

The Notification Method Detail page appears.

Note: You can search for a notification method.

  3. Click Edit.

The Update Notification Method Update page appears.

  4. Update one or more of the following fields:
    Symbol

Defines a unique identifier for the notification method.

    Record Status

Specifies if the database record is active or inactive.

    Write to File

Specifies if the context information of the notification method is written to a file. If you select this option, the TEMP (Windows) or TMP (UNIX) environment variable determines the directory used for creating notification files. The environment used depends on who started the CA SDM services. On Windows, for example, configure the System Variables environment and specify TEMP if it is not already defined. If the system cannot find the environment variable, notification files are written to the root directory of the default drive.

    Supports SMTP

Specifies that SMTP addresses are supported for email recipients.

    Description

    Describes the notification method.

    Notification Method

Shows the name (including the path when it is required) of the program or executable script that runs, and any applicable switches. For example:

    Launchit c:\\backup\\applog.bat

    or

    pdm_mail -p

Note: You need two backslash (\) characters to format a Windows path, because the backslash character is the CA SDM escape character.

    Click Save.

The Notification Method Detail page appears.

  5. Click Close Window.

The new notification method appears in the Notification Method List when you redisplay the list.
